Inside a Hidden City
Colorado Springs is a city in flux, a place in the process of self-discovery and formation. Much of the change has been behind the scenes as it were: people here and there making spaces for creativity, crafting delightful food, forming extraordinary architecture, all vibrant and gravitative, but in various ways hidden, concealed by the qualities of an unpretentious instinct. Diane Reeves’s debut art show was an exploration of this place’s efforts of discovery.
Diane’s paintings for this show were abstract reflections on Colorado Springs’ evolution. We created a show identity to play up the mysterious process of the growth of a city. Dark, shadowy, and hidden with a sphere of color as an indication of a hopeful future, the show’s poster was designed to grab attention and inspire intrigue.
This show was Diane’s interaction with meaningful locations in Colorado Springs , and we imagined a photo style to adorn this interaction. We placed Diane and her paintings in the heart and grit of downtown, offering insight into the ethos of the show, locating the artist and her work in their native habitat.
The result was a visual identity that generated buzz consistent with the nature of what was a well-received and record-breaking show in Colorado Springs, of which we were thankful to be a part.
